About Sylvan

Who makes Sylvan pontoon boats?

Sylvan pontoons are built by Sylvan, part of the Smoker Craft, Inc. family of brands, one of the largest independent boat manufacturers in the United States and a boat builder since 1903. Sylvan keeps its own identity while drawing on the engineering and manufacturing resources of the larger company. You buy a Sylvan through an authorized Sylvan dealer.

Where are Sylvan pontoons built?

Every Sylvan is built in New Paris, Indiana, where the company has its headquarters and manufacturing. The region’s strong manufacturing heritage and skilled workforce are a big part of the craftsmanship you see in every Sylvan.

How long has Sylvan been building boats?

Sylvan has been building boats since 1948. It started as a small family boat builder focused on reliable boats for family recreation and grew into one of the most respected names in pontoons, known for innovations like SPX performance tubes and robotic tube welding.

Is Sylvan a family owned company?

Yes. Five generations of the Schrock family have guided Sylvan and its parent company, Smoker Craft, Inc. That family connection still shapes how Sylvan treats its employees, dealers and owners, with a focus on building boats that bring people together on the water.

Construction

What is hat channel construction on a pontoon?

Hat channel construction uses wide aluminum cross members shaped like a top hat to support the deck. Sylvan uses 6 inch wide hat channels in .125 gauge aluminum, with heavier .250 gauge at key stress points, each secured with 8 bolts across wide deck risers. The result is a stiffer, stronger base with less deck flex, without adding extra weight.

Why is hat channel stronger than C channel?

A hat channel has a wider footprint than the C channel framing many builders use, so it spreads loads over more surface area and resists twisting. That matters when you carry a full crew, run a big outboard or cross choppy water. C channel designs can also need more cross members to do the same job.

How strong is a Sylvan transom?

Sylvan transoms use aluminum as heavy as .190 gauge, through bolted with up to 20 stainless steel bolts, and the transom area is supported with up to 3/16 inch hat channel. That combination is built to handle the torque of today’s high horsepower outboards season after season.

How are Sylvan pontoon tubes made?

Sylvan was the first in the industry to fully automate pontoon tube assembly. Robots weld the 25 inch tubes, nose cones, riser brackets and full length keel together for precise, consistent welds on every tube. Deck brackets then attach with 4 points of fusion to reduce frame twist and tube fatigue.

What is the Sylvan FXP fiberglass panel system?

FXP is Sylvan’s fiberglass side panel system, designed and built in house. It pairs an industry exclusive top rail with quick release panels, so a panel can be serviced or replaced more easily, and it is engineered for a rattle free ride and a clean, upscale look.

Why don’t Sylvan pontoons rattle?

Sylvan’s Vibration Dampening Process places synthetic rubber, butyl tape and high density foam tape along every cross member, plus foam tape between the rails and fence panels. Every fence joint is fully welded and anodized before the foam goes on. Together, that stops the rattle you often hear on other pontoons.

Warranty

What warranty comes with a Sylvan pontoon?

Every Sylvan is covered by the Lifetime +6 Warranty. That means a limited lifetime warranty on the hull and structure, including decks, tubes and transoms, plus a six year limited warranty on marine grade flooring and, on most models, upholstery and vinyl. Parts and labor are included. Some exceptions apply, so check the full warranty for your model.

Is the Sylvan warranty transferable?

Yes. The Lifetime +6 Warranty transfers to a second owner, which adds real value if you ever sell your Sylvan. Your dealer can walk you through how the transfer works.

Are the fence and railings covered?

Yes. Every foot of fence and railing on a Sylvan is backed by a six year warranty. The joints are fully welded and anodized, then backed with foam to prevent rattling.

Where can I read the full Sylvan warranty?

The complete warranty for every Smoker Craft, Inc. brand and model is available to view and download on the Lifetime +6 Warranty page. Your local Sylvan dealer can also answer questions about coverage on a specific boat.

What is the most affordable Sylvan pontoon?

The A Series is Sylvan’s most affordable lineup, starting with the A16 LZ. It comes in lengths from 17 to 22 feet with 23 inch tubes, roto molded polyethylene corners, Sea Weave flooring and sleek black rails. It is an easy, low maintenance way into Sylvan ownership.

What is Sylvan’s most luxurious pontoon?

The M Series is the pinnacle of the Sylvan lineup. Every M5 is 27’8″ long, rated up to 400 hp and seats up to 14, with premium seating, high end finishes and integrated technology. It comes in ULZ, DLZ and SLZ layouts, with dual console versions available.

Which Sylvan pontoons have a third tube?

The X, L and G series all come standard with a third tube and Sylvan’s SPX performance package. That third tube adds lift, stability and sharper handling, and it lets these boats run bigger outboards. On the X Series it is a big reason it is one of the best values on the water.

Which Sylvan is best for fishing?

Sylvan builds Party Fish models in the Mirage, R and L series. Each pairs comfortable lounge seating with dedicated fishing seats and a livewell, and the R and L versions add a rear fish station with rod holders. The Mirage Party Fish is the most budget friendly, while the L Party Fish brings premium comfort and up to 300 hp.

What do the Sylvan layout names like LZ, CLZ and DLZ mean?

Each layout code describes the seating plan. LZ uses wraparound lounges, CLZ adds a flip back rear seat, DLZ (Dual Lounge) turns a 4 person rear picnic area into a full lounge, SLZ uses flip back lounges on both sides, ULZ features rear seating that converts into a lounger, RLZ has four flip back seats, and Bar layouts add a 4 person bar. DC means dual console.

Buying and Ownership

Can I buy a Sylvan pontoon directly from the factory?

No. Sylvan pontoons are sold only through authorized Sylvan dealers. That way you have a local partner for sales, service and warranty support for as long as you own your boat. Use the Sylvan dealer locator to find the dealer closest to you.

How much does a Sylvan pontoon cost?

Sylvan pontoons start at $23,970 for the A16 LZ and run past $200,000 for the flagship M Series. Starting prices on each model page include a recommended engine. Your dealer can build an exact quote with your layout, colors and options.

Can I design my own Sylvan online?

Yes. Every series and model page has a Build Your Boat tool where you can pick a layout, colors, upholstery and options, then send your build to a local dealer for pricing.

Where is the hull ID number on my Sylvan?

On every boat built after November 1, 1972, the hull identification number (HIN) is permanently attached to the upper right corner of the rear of the transom. You will need it for registration, warranty claims and ordering parts through your dealer.

Where can I find a Sylvan owner’s manual or an old brochure?

You can download the Sylvan owner’s manual from the Owner Resources page. It covers all models rather than one specific boat. For older boats, the catalog archive has past brochures by year, and the Boat Identification Form can help if you are not sure which model you own.

Who handles warranty work on my Sylvan?

Only a certified Sylvan dealer can make warranty decisions and perform warranty work. Work done by anyone else can void your warranty, so start with your local Sylvan dealer for any service or coverage questions.

Can I order parts directly from Sylvan?

Sylvan does not sell parts direct. Parts, replacement decals and canvas are ordered through your local Sylvan dealer. Canvas can be ordered for boats six years old or newer. For trailer parts, contact your trailer manufacturer.
